The Pickstown and Fort Randall Museum

The Museum is a collection of objects, artifacts and information relating to the Fort Randall, SD area. They are grouped into four historical periods: 1) the establishment of Fort Randall in 1856, 2) the construction and development of the Fort Randall Dam and the town of Pickstown, beginning in 1946, 3) the life of the Pickstown school (1947-1968), and 4) the evolution of Pickstown to its present state.

 

The museum artifacts, exhibits, movable figures, furnishings, and equipment are the property of the Pickstown & Fort Randall Museum Foundation, a non-profit corporation established under the laws of South Dakota and operating as a 501(c)3 corporation. The Museum Foundation has granted the right to the Town of Pickstown to house, care for and display the aforementioned property.

The Museum Foundation expresses appreciation to Tom Brokaw for donating his time and talents to producing visual content for the sole purpose of documenting the unique history of the Fort Randall Dam and the town of Pickstown

All audio and visual materials on this site are used for their historical and informative content and in a non-commercial manner.

Vision: To create a well-defined, professionally organized and sustainably managed museum that is a significant source of local South Dakota history and that benefits Pickstown and its residents by continuing to generate broad public interest in the area.
